One of the things I love about my adopted home state is that it was the very first, and still only state in the union to legalize marriage for everyone. Not just between men and women. Sometimes I love the effects of activist liberalism and I'm glad to throw my support behind this one.
Unfortunately, a group mostly comprised of Catholic Church members has succeeded in convincing the state legislature here to convene a Constitutional Convention where, with a mere 50 votes in favor, will put gay marriage to a vote of the general population. Imagine, VOTING on the individual rights of people. I can't think of anything more rogue and fucked up than that. But that's the Catholic Church, now isn't it? Despite the efforts of a friendly governor, the convention convenes today and as I type, the tally is too close to call. I'm afraid that if it passes, the state will revoke the basic human right it and its Supreme Court granted to gay people nearly three years ago. Could somebody PLEASE tell me why, under any circumstance, it would be acceptable to allow a few million people to decide who I marry? What scares them so? What is the threat? Opponents of marriage equality have never answered those questions, unable to see beyond their own hate, bias and fear.
The convention convenes today at 1pm and millions of us are hoping for a positive outcome. Otherwise, it's back to the 1600's we go and the tiny bit of ground gay people have achieved in this one enclave of equality will take a giant step back. In the year 2007 we're still arguing who can marry whom. Are you listening Clarence Thomas? Amazing really.

found this site by accident but began to read. I really like your style and especially appreciate what you had to say about the Massachusettes marriage bill and its passage. Best of luck. You now have a new fan.
