Sunday Night

60_minutes.jpgTonight, on 60 Minutes: Anderson Cooper reports on endangered mountain gorillas in Africa because, as we know, Anderson Cooper is much too effeminate, bland and precious to report an actual news story, or anything not yet covered by 100-plus journalists...

Scott Pelley gives the weekly obscure-medical-condition/obscure-drug report; this time on something called 'Prometa' used to treat addictions. Why? Because a giant pharma company is paying him to, that's why.

Bob Simon does the bi-weekly obscure-athlete-profile; tonight on the NFL's LaDainian Tomlinson. Do YOU know who LaDainian Tomlinson is? Well, neither does 99.999% of the rest of the population: But Bob Simon and 60 Minutes think you do, and that you're actually interested.

All that and Andy Rooney's eye brows and old man smell; TONIGHT! on 60 Minutes.

Remember when 60 Minutes used to be interesting? ...Neither do I.

White Washed!

BostonPatch-200.jpgA Boston fireman has been the apparent victim of a race crime but you're not likely to see it on the local or national news. Why? Because the victim is white and the alleged gang is Hispanic.

While the local media here in Boston is all about following the illiterate, barely audible Mayor about town during his daily routine of ribbon-cutting and photo ops at local 'community" centers, very little has been mentioned here about the crime, with the exception of The Boston Herald. Link to a copy of the story is HERE.

According to reports, the 32-year-old off-duty fireman is recovering from what could have been fatal stab wounds received early Monday morning by a group of Hispanic males in East Boston. The gang reportedly told the fireman they 'don't want any gringo here."

Police, for some odd reason, are not classifying the incident as racially fueled. Of course not, only white people can be racists, right? I mean, that's what they're taught here in Massachusetts public schools. The victim whose name is not being released but is confirmed as being white, was saved only by seeking refuge at Engine Company 5, the same station he's assigned to. A BFD spokesman said the firefighter had gone to Chivas Restaurant in East Boston's Day Square to grab takeout when "six guys started exchanging words with him. He indicated he was just there to get a sandwich and that he was a firefighter." At that point is when the group began to push him.

Hoping to avoid a confrontation, the spokesman said the victim got into his car and headed for his station but the pack followed him on foot. It was when he arrived at the station, getting out of his car that the group attacked; punching, kicking and then stabbing him in the chest.

So if you're reading this and you're in Boston, (or hell, even if you aren't), it's not a bad thing to contact the Boston Police Department and/or your city councilman about why this crime is not being categorized appropriately. No doubt the city, as it does with other statistics, wants to keep it official number of race crimes to a minimum; but to do so dishonestly and at the cost of a man who puts his life on the line everyday for everyone, regardless of race? THAT burns..

Crazy Dog People

DogCarriage.jpgSo it had to happen. It isn't enough that every-other once hip, bohemian or otherwise artsy/kitschy shop in my South End neighborhood has morphed into an upscale mommy-and-me designer baby accessory boutique. Now it's our turn, the dog people. Check out this article.....

My idea of a crazy dog person used to be the type of person I've flirted with becoming; dressing the hound in cold weather jackets and/or rain slickers. Boudreaux has one of each but I swear that's as bad as I get.

Now, not only must city dwellers dodge the sidewalk-hogging SUV-sized baby strollers, we now have to brace for this: doggy strollers. I'm not kidding, I've seen one around my neighborhood already, not very long ago. Thinking it was just a fluke, I remember my friend Chris commenting on a mosquito-net enclosed doggy baby carriage we saw some lady pushing along the bay in San Diego a couple of years back. "Look at that" he said. "How long before you get the dog one of THOSE?" "Eh, how about NEVER?" but I admit I was fascinated. "Yeah but just wait," he said. "You'll be seeing them all over the east coast in no time. They like that sort of thing." If I didn't mention it before, Chris is a west coast snob, making time throughout his day in 75-degree sunny San Diego winter to message me about whatever snow storm I'm currently suffering in Boston. Yeah, that's how he rolls.

I suppose the trend really is catching-on now. As for me, I'll keep using the leash to bring MY dog to daycare and play dates. *humph*
